Saturday Morning Hangover - Philadelphia Improv Festival Night 2

It is night two of The Philadelphia Improv Festival and we talk to a variety of people tonight. The conversation is fluid and becomes a bit more ridiculous as the night wears on, but it's all in good fun here at the festival. Overall, the conversation ranges from the use of acronyms to the immunities granted for being a podcaster. We talk to some improvisors who were on last year, such as the talented Brian O'Connell and some new ones as well.

Saturday Morning Hangover 7/4 Episode

BJ and Milkshake continue their conversation about the Keith Johnstone workshop with Ben and Jason. This week they mainly discuss how much people should pay for improv shows, doing improv out in parks, and briefly talk about how vampires would do improv. Kristen and Alexis call in during the show for totally unrelated things.

The show ends with an amazing fireworks display... somewhat lost on this totally audio podcast, but it sounds awesome.

The music is cutest Lil' Dragon, and Things Against Stuff by Danielson.

Saturday Morning Hangover 6/27 Episode

BJ and Milkshake wait outside the Keith Johnstone workshop and lure two out-of-town students down into the bunker, with the promise of sex. Jason has apparently been running boston's version of the improv incubator every Thursday. Johnstone is compared to wrestling's Rick Flair, while the N Crowd is the animé of american improv. A few of KJ's workshop exercises are shared.

This week's music by Sunset Valley: Sky Lab Love Scene.

Saturday Morning Hangover 6/6 Episode

Share a cup of coffee with Charles Rosen, the enigmatic founder of longform troupe Mr. Lizard, as we explore small arms, Mr. Cutler's bartending expertise, what the Jonas Brothers might drink if they were known to get sauced, teabagging, and more of Milkshake's prudish nature as he tries to protect his guest from the gassy depths of his co-host.

Milkshake's "situational theory of improv" also comes into discussion. This week's theme music is our hospitality by Swedish rock band, Komeda.

Saturday Morning Hangover 5/16 Episode

(Please note that the ability for the podcast to be played from our blog is unavailable for this week. You can either down load it with the link below or use the subscription link to subscribe using iTunes.)

We receive a visit from pineapple-bearing improv fan, Renée, who will go to her grave having learned nothing, NOTHING, from previous Saturday Morning Hangovers. And while death will inevitably visit each of us, hopefully it will wait until funerary parking culture has evolved to where it no longer infuriates BJ. Several philly players, including fellow phit house team player Alan, get allegations waged against them regarding their associations and behavior.

This week's music is the main theme from the awesome Playstation game, Katamari Damacy.

Saturday Morning Hangover 4-4

This week on The N Crowd Saturday Morning Hangover, we find out a great mystery:  What exactly does Charles Rosen do?   After that answer, we dive into the deep history of Charles.  He is no longer a man of mystery.  We find out about his dark college history and why the label "Drunk and Jewish" applies to him.   Afterwhich the entire gang (B.J., Matt, Charles, and Milkshake) discuss very drinking stories and rumors that pop up why people won't drink.

After that Matt discusses the day he nearly got fired, lawsuited, and had a delicious buffet.  B.J. follows up with the story about clever advertising on a van.   Spoiler Alert: It involves a bikini.

Then the entire gang eats cookies and pineapple for alittle while.  The cream and cookies unfortunately interferes with their ability to talk about anything interesting.  Charles does eventually talk about his Mr. Lizard performance.

Saturday Morning Hangover 3-28

So who is our special guest we chatted about last week?  It is none other than Charles Rosen!   Charles joins B.J., Milkshake, and Matt this week on the Saturday Morning Hangover.    Quickly there is mass confusion  on what day of the week it is.  After a brief moment of chaos, the group discuss the improv show at Connie's Ric Rack on Friday, March 21st.

After that Matt Nelson describes the most uncomfortable bowling alley incident ever.    It involves a death and a cake.   B.J. states how he would like to be remembered if he is ever memorialized.   Next, B.J. tells about an unfortuante lighting "incident" at the Actors Center.  It almost invovled an electircal fire.    Please take notes as he goes into technical detail about lighting systems.

Then the gang discusses various rumors regarding Facebook and it becoming a paysite.   Then the gang starts rumors regarding Phillyimprov.com.   They are all pretty sure it will become a hard core porn site by the end of the month.   Charles agrees completely.  Milkshake sings the praises of Gmail over Yahoo Mail.

Check out Charle's improv troupe Mr. Lizard on Facebook.

Saturday Monring Hangover 3-21

This week Matt Nelson joins B.J. Ellis and Milkshake on the Saturday morning hangover. This week, the Hangover is using a brand new mic! (Which hopefully will reduce the slight buzz heard in previous espides.) We start out with Milkshake talking about his performance at The N Crowd on the previous night with his PHIT house team, Everything Must Go

Matt and Milkshake discuss the show at length. They also discuss how the following N Crowd show on that same night.

After a brief discussion about where we were all conceived, Milkshakes talks about the 3rd anniversary of the inncubator.    He gives details of when, where, and what will be going on.   B.J. also breifly discuss's the N Crowd's birthday in late April.  Then they all agree that they don't care about March Maddness.    Milkshake also discusses several names he could go by, other than Milkshake.  B.J. has some very strong opinions regarding the name Derek.

Then for some reason, Matt, Milkshake, and B.J. discuss Nikola Tessla.  They clearly have not read anything about this scientist lately.

B.J. gives shout outs to a vareity of people somwhere in this podcast.

Wednesday Morning Leftovers 3-18

Sometimes there is just so much good stuff recorded on Saturdays, there is a little left over. This is it! The Wednesday Leftovers of the Saturday Morning Hangover. After a brief conversation with a tomato, Kristen asks B.J., Rob, and Milkshake what their before or after routines are for improv shows.

B.J. also shows that verbally... he can be a car wreck sometimes. But he also shares why Arizona Wal-Marts are far superior to Pennsylvania Wal-Marts.

The last 4 minutes of this short podcast is also the greatest train wreck ever recorded.

N Crowd Saturday Morning Hangover 3-14

Kristen Schier and Apple Milkshake return this week to discuss improv, life, and all things in between. At the start of the podcast, Kristen asks B.J. and Milkshake what their feelings on doing impressions of ethnicities. This hardy discussion reflects on the pros and cons of it. This discussion eventually morphs into a discussion about high and low status characters and breaking the 4th wall.

Then the trio have a discussion about their preferences of absurd or realistic improv. Then B.J. talks about how he doesn't like gimmicky improv, with some notable exceptions. Then Rob Cutler comes out of no where and scares the crap out of everyone. (Everyone being only B.J.) Apparently Rob is in an iron lung after the horrible ice condenser accident. Check back a few episodes for that.

N Crowd Saturday Morning Hangover 3-7

We return this week to Milkshake's kitchen for another addition of The N Crowd Saturday Morning Hangover. First we find out why B.J. does not sing on Friday nights as he discusses possible theme music for the podcast.

After that, B.J. recounts a hit and run incident involving him and several other N Crowd members. Don't worry... everyone is okay, but it's quite a story.

Finally, B.J. and Milkshake chat about a possible new podcast. The subject: Firearms. It becomes quite apparent that they don't really know enough to be even remotely useful. The idea probably won't get off the ground.

N Crowd Saturday Morning Hangover 2-28

The N Crowd Saturday Morning Hangover Returns!

Sorry for the unannounced hiatus, but a large amount of scheduling problems made it difficult to do any podcasts in Feburary. But at least we got one in.. sorta. Enjoy!

This week, Kristen Schier and Apple Milkshake join the Hangover in Milkshake's kitchen. We start off talking about Milkshake's inability to follow up with things on facebook. B.J. thinks that the Little Green Patch App doesn't do anything for the rain forest.

After that digression, Kristen talks improv with Milkshake and B.J. She asks how they come up with their characters and the importance of showing vunerablities. This eventually goes into describing how socially awkaward B.J. and Milkshake can be in public but not on stage. (See previous episodes for more information about that.)

B.J. does a great impression of Grover and then pulls the curtain back on the how the Podcast is produced.

After that, Milkshake talks about his experience while special guesting with The N Crowd. Being a long form performer, he found it to be very interesting.

Then, we have the most in depth conversation on The Saturday Morning Hangover..ever. We spend a good 5 or so minutes on fake fart noises. B.J. wraps up the conversation by retelling the worst nickname he ever gave to her.

Saturday Morning Hangover 1-24 Espisode

This week we talk to original N Crowd member, Mike Connor for the podcast.   Right out of the gate, Mike turns the entire podcast on it's head by... well.. interviewing B.J. Ellis who was suppose to be interviewing him.  It wasn't exactly Frost/Nixon, but it was also quite revealing.

After that exchange we talk to Mike about how he got started in The N Crowd, why he does it, and why he enjoys it.  All were answered with horrible vagueness.   Then we talk about how the Hopper Brothers got started and where the inspiration was for that.

Finally we have probably the conversation of the century... we talk about Math.  Wow. Pretty exciting huh?

Finally, Martin Hopper stops by and sings for us his favorite song wrapping up the entire podcast.

Oh yea, Brandon also wanders on through several times as well.

Saturday Morning Hangover 1-17 Episode

In this episode, The N Crowd Saturday Morning hangover gets its first official sponsor:  Jekin McJekin's Squirrel Whisky.  It's as good as it sounds.  Yum.  Squirrel Whiskey.    After that brief liquor related commercial, Nick, Rob, and Milkshake join B.J. on the Hangover for a third straight week of discussions.  First, Nick talks about a new improv project he is working on:  A podcast based "Bat" performance.   A "Bat" is an improv show done like a radio show.  Nick and B.J. discuss various technical challenges related to this project.

On a technology related note, Nick and B.J. then discuss briefly an iPhone and a Blackberry and how quickly they can make dicks out of people.  B.J. then shares a neat piece of Internet technology called Grand Central.  After which, Nick and Milkshake illustrate the dangers of this Internet phone service.  B.J. laments how annoying it is to get phone calls from people who have done no research regarding the improv show.

We find out that Milkshake tends to hoard things... (And maybe even Rob.)

Finally, Milkshake hijacks the show and holds everyone hostage as he tries to justify why it is okay not wanting to own property but rather just live out of hotels.  Neither Rob or Nick really agree with him on his statements.   B.J. ends up making an analogy that is undeniably the worst analogy he has ever made. (He usually makes good ones.)

Milkshakes eventually releases the hostages.

Saturday Morning Hangover 1-10 Episode

Rob, Milkshake, and Nick join The Hangover for another week of conversation.  This week, B.J. discusses why he hates Tyler Perry and every single movie he makes.... but has no problem with George Foreman and the products he makes.   He also discusses The N Crowd's New Years Eve show on December 31st of last year which leads the entire gang to test out a great discovery:  A Steam to Ice Cube Machine.  Think it's impossible, well this audio proves it isn't.

Milkeshake then squelches up a discussion about the Israeli military.  Do you know who the Druze are?   No one else does either apparently.  But everyone does know apparently about the French Foreign Legion.

Finally Milkshake gives us an update on the Rock-u-bator.

All in all, a very productive 20-some minutes.

Thanks and hope you enjoy the show!

Saturday Morning Hangover 1/3 Episode

Welcome to 2009! The Saturday Morning Hangover has returned after a month hiatus! This episode we return to Milkeshake's kitchen with special guests Nick Gillette and Rob Cutler. Amongst hand made waffles from Milkshake we talk about Honest Assholes and why Sean Connery turned down Lord of the Rings.

Did you know that the Israel air force can legally bomb waffle houses? (As in houses made of waffles?) And you thought you only had to worry about hungry German Children running around huh?

Also we talk about background checks and the awesomeness of the Swiss Military. 2009 is going to be a fun year of podcasts! Enjoy!
